Travel & Accommodations

Conference attendees coming from all over the globe have several options when planning their trip to Providence. If you wish to insure your trip, consider using travel insurance from InsureMyTrip.

Travel

Car

Thanks to recent construction, Providence is more accessible than ever from major interstates, particularly I-95 and I-195. If driving, use Google Maps or a similar service to find directions to the final address. Alternatively, search for directions to ZIP code 02906 (Providence) or 02912 (College Hill).

Train

20 minutes by foot or 5 minutes by car, Providence Station is within striking distance of College Hill. Providence Station features service from both Amtrak (Acela Express, Northeast Regional) and the MBTA (the Providence/Stoughton line of the Commuter Rail).

Bus

Kennedy Plaza, the central node of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA), is the ultimate destination for all bus service in Providence. Popular bus lines Greyhound and Peter Pan also provide service to and from the Plaza, which is just down the road from the heart of RISD.

Airplane

The biggest airport serving the Providence area is T. F. Green, located just south of Providence in Warwick, Rhode Island. Attendees arriving at T. F. Green have several options for travel to the conference, including RIPTA lines and taxi. For a list of taxi options, please see Brown’s accommodations website.

Bike Train

To kick off Bike Walk Week and to celebrate the conference’s third year, A Better World by Design has partnered with the Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition to initiate a Bike Train that will stimulate sustainable systems of transportation through the facilitation of environmentally-friendly green travel options. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the conference a train will begin at approximately 7:15 AM 12 miles north of Providence and will arrive at 8:20 AM at the conference. The route will also offer an alternate starting point for attendees who wish to participate in a shorter ride. Participants will receive a conference t-shirt as well as a chance to win the hand-painted limited edition conference bicycle brought to you by REI Bike. Please follow the link for the complete route. To register for the Bike Train, please contact Gabriela_Baiter (AT) brown (DOT) edu.
